Hope is on the horizon for those with Alzheimer’s.
The disease effects more than 5.8 million Americans.
On Thursday, the Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a one-day research conference in Roanoke.
Sessions will focus on treatment and prevention for caregivers and patients.
The Alzheimer’s Association say the key to success may be a combination of treatments.
“That combined approach is a way that we have already seen has been successful for things like heart disease. And we see that, not only are people taking medicines, but they’re also changing some thing in their lifestyle,” said Rebecca Edelmayer, director of scientific engagement for for the Alzheimer’s Association.
The recent Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Roanoke raised $130,000 of the $168,000 goal towards research.
Walk-in registration is still available for the conference.
