KINSTON, NC (WITN) November is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and one assisted living facility in eastern Carolina is making sure dementia patients memories are preserved for decades to come.
A time capsule was sealed after being filled with pictures and written stories about battling the disease, along with statistics about how the disease affects patients in 2019.
The ceremony was held at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Kinston and it was very emotional for family members of those suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Heather Hooper, Dementia Alliance of NC Executive Director, hopes by the time the capsule is opened, care and treatment for the disease will have improved. “I hope that we’re less isolated of a disease, that we know that there’s more support for caregivers, that our infrastructure can support our caregivers and those living with dementia and hopefully a cure by then as well.”
The time capsule will be buried later this week and will not be reopened until November of 2039.
