CARROT RIVER — Carrot River has hired environment consultant Pinchin Ltd. for an asbestos survey that will cost about $16,000.
This comes after an Occupational Health and Safety visit last spring, where the town was given a requirement to put the survey in place.
“This wasn’t a budgeted expense but council did make a decision that we would go for the lowest service provider, which ended up being Pinchin,” said Kevin Trew, the town’s administrator
The survey will contain the data on any asbestos inventory levels for all town owned municipal buildings.
Trew said having the inventory data doesn’t mean they’ll be required to act on eliminating it.
“We don’t have any idea how much asbestos we have in town owned facilities, now we’ll know.”
