Free Diabetes Self-Management Program Available

CHILLICOTHE – Are you living with Type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes, caring for someone living with diabetes, or are you someone who just wants to learn more about healthy living?  Would you like to gain confidence and new skills to manage your diabetes and feel healthier? The Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc. (AAA7) is bringing an evidence-based Diabetes Self-Management Program to local residents.  

Participants in the Diabetes Self-Management Program will gain needed support in addition to a number of other benefits including:

  •  Learning practical ways to deal with pain, fatigue and depression
  • Discovering ways to be more physically active
  • Learning how to eat healthier and manage your diet
  • Learning better ways to talk with your physician and family about your health
  • Monitoring your blood sugar
  •  Finding ways to relax and deal with stress

The program is available at no cost and open to those age 60 and over.  The free six-week workshop will soon be offered in Ross County at Hopeton Terrace, located at 55 Sunrush Boulevard in Chillicothe. Sessions over the six-week period will be held each Wednesday from Nov. 6 through Dec. 11. Each session will be from 9:00 am until 11:30 am.  Those participating should attend all six sessions. 

Participants in the Diabetes Self-Management Program can represent individuals living with diabetes, be a caregiver of someone with diabetes, or be someone who simply wants to learn more about healthy living.

The Martins to perform in Waverly

WAVERLY –  Multi-Dove Award winning Christian recording artist, The Martins will be featured at the New Covenant Church in Waverly. The popular vocal group will be featured at 7 p.m.  Saturday, Nov. 2. Joining the Martins for this exciting event will be Guy Penrod.

Siblings, Judy, Joyce and Jonathan Martin, have enjoyed countless radio hits and performances on stages at such prestigious locations as The Grand Ole Opry and The White House, as well as concert halls, auditoriums and churches nationwide. After nearly a decade of pursuing individual music careers, their precedent-setting musical influence continues today. Over the years the trio has garnered eight Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association, multiple Grammy nominations and many hit songs. 

Colerian Township board of trustees announces meeting

HALLSVILLE – THe Colerain Township board of trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 at the fire department annex building in Hallsville.

Ross County Historical Society announces upcoming Scherenschnitte workshop

CHILLICOTHE – Learn the art of Scherenschnittem, the Pennsylvania German craft of hand-cut paper designs, with local artist Bonnie Grove. Visitors can spend a relaxing afternoon learning how to turn an ordinary piece of paper into a beautiful work of art that you can frame and hang on a wall or make into charming decorations for your next Christmas tree. 

All patterns and materials will be provided including small scissors. Participants will need to bring their own x-acto knives with an extra pack of #11 craft blades. Please register now for a fun opportunity to learn a beautiful and unique heritage craft. 

The workshop will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Ross County Heritage Center located at 45 West 5th Street in Chillicothe.

Admission is $9 for historical society members and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration is required, but you may pay your registration fee upon your arrival at the workshop.  Call 740-772-1936 Monday-Friday 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. to register. Space is limited.

Metro Housing Board to meet

CHILLICOTHE – The Chillicothe Metropolitan Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will be having its regular board meeting at 11:30 a.m. Monday, in the Lawrence W. Brown Board Room, 178 West Fourth Street.
